MUAARAB first Gr.1 winner of 2016

Posted on: 12th Apr 2016

The M Al Muhairi trained 7 year old gelding beat American contender XY JET by a neck in the hotly contested 10 runner race on the dirt track.

The Gr.1 win is a fantastic end to the UAE season where HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum was awarded the Leading Owner title for the 13th consecutive year; it was also a great way to kick start the year and raise the hopes of the team for the upcoming European season.

In the run up to the Dubai World Cup meeting, MUARRAB’S jockey, Paul Hanagan, had earmarked him as a horse with a chance to make the night special for the Shadwell team; he told the Racing Post:

“He absolutely bolted up last time and has to go there with a good chance.”

MUARRAB had already seen his profile raised considerably after winning the Gr.3 Mahab Al Shimaal (over the same course and distance) on Super Saturday by a significant margin of 5 ¾ lengths and breaking the course record in the process.

MUARRAB is his sire (OASIS DREAM’S) 15th Gr.1 winner and was bred by Stratford Place Stud in the UK. He was a 280,000gns yearling purchase from Tattersalls and has amassed over £1,000,000 in prize money during his career.
