Rafeef: star sprinter won three awards in South Africa

RAFEEF, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s star performer in the Southern Hemisphere, scooped three awards in South Africa on Tuesday at the Highveld Feature Season Awards at Emperors Palace.

The Mick de Kock-trained four-year-old landed the top prize, Horse Of The Season, as well as Champion Older Horse and Champion Sprinter.

A son of Australia’s leading sire REDOUTE’S CHOICE, RAFEEF won four of his six races last season, with his biggest victories coming in the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint and Group Hawaii Stakes.

RAFEEF’S two-year-old brother MUSTAAQEEM, who landed the Grade 1 South African Nursery in Sheikh Hamdan’s colours for De Kock on the same day as RAFEEF scored in the Computaform Sprint, was crowned Champion Juvenile.

Bred by Arrowfield Stud in partnership with Klawervlei Stud, MUSTAAQEEM and RAFEEF are out of three-time Grade 1 winner and star producer NATIONAL COLOUR, whose achievements were recognised at the event with a special award.

Congratulations to HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mike de Kock and to all of the team.
