ATYAAB: the three-year-old is the first Group 1 winner by DUNDEEL

The famous blue and white silks of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum were carried to Grade 1 success on Saturday when ATYAAB dug in deep to see off a challenge from CHARLES (TRIPPI) to win the Cape Derby at Kenilworth in South Africa.

It was a landmark moment for young Arrowfield  stallion DUNDEEL (HIGH CHAPARRAL), with ATYAAB becoming the sire’s first top-flight winner.

The Mike De Kock-trained three-year-old, who is the second horse to win the Cape Derby for Sheikh Hamdan following ERTIJAAL (HARD SPUN), could step up in trip and head for the South African Derby, run over 1m4f.
