First foal for MUKHADRAM

Posted on: 12th Jan 2016

The filly is reported to be an eye-catching, flashy type with plenty of potential. Jeff Hobby commented: “A good size, attractive bay filly with a good temperament, she was born 2 weeks early and is strengthening every day.”

MUKHADRAM (Shamardal x Magic Tree) won the Gr.1 Coral – Eclipse in 2015 after amassing just under £2million in prize money with runs in the UK, Ireland and the UAE.  He also won the Gr.2 York Stakes and the Gr.3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes during his 15 race career in which he only missed the frame on 1 occasion.

GREEN POPPY is by Green Desert out of an Indian Ridge mare.  A winner over 6 furlongs herself, her first foal, BURTONWOOD (a colt by Acclamation) was a 150,000gns yearling, a winning 2YO (placed 4th in the Woodcote Stakes (Listed)) and a winner over sprint distances as a 3YO in 2015.  Her second foal a colt by Iffraaj was sold to Sackville Donald for 115,000gns as a yearling in 2014 and is now in training with Ed Walker.

“We are delighted for Brightwalton Stud and wish them every success with their MUKHADRAM filly. We are very happy that we have attracted stakes winners and producers to MUKHADRAM in his first year at stud but also proud that we can give young mares with potential, like GREEN POPPY, the opportunity to develop their pedigree.  This is possible because Shadwell continue to price our stallions competitively, treat breeders fairly and provide opportunities to top class sire lines.” Richard Lancaster, Shadwell’s Stud Director explained.

“As a good looking son of Shamardal, MUKHADRAM was once again a popular choice with breeders for the 2016 season.  We stuck to our commitment to keep his price at £7,000 SLF for the first 3 years of his career and we gave those breeders who missed out on the opportunity to breed to him in his first season, first refusal at using him in 2016.”
