KAHAL once again crowned South Africa’s stallion of the year

Posted on: 29th Nov 2013

South African based Shadwell stallion KAHAL was once again crowned “Stallion of the Year” at the recent KZN Breeders’ Awards.

Warwick & Karin Render of Bush Hill Stud, South Africa who manage the horse for Shadwell were delighted but not surprised by KAHAL’S success. Warwick told us:

“He had seven individual progeny as finalists which amounted to fourteen nominees through their various categories and ended up taking the titles in the categories of Champion 3 y.o. Colt and Champion Middle Distance Male  with Love Struck. Festival Of Fire won all of 3y.o Filly, Sprinter and Middle Distance Female and was crowned Horse OF The Year. Checcetti won the Older Female Title.

The fact that these horses were bred by four different studs just once again highlights what a wonderful influence this stallion has been for such a wide array of breeders in KZN and why we are so grateful for his and Shadwell’s contribution to the breeding industry in this province.”

KAHAL also finished the 2012/13 racing season as the third leading sire in the country by total stakes earned and the third leading sire of three year olds by stakes earned. His leading achievers for the season would have been the winner of the SA Classic Gr 1 “Love Struck” (this now being his 6th individual Gr 1 winner), along with his Gr 2 winners this season in “Festival Of Fire”, “Checcetti”, and “Eastern Greeting”.
