Shadwell are proud to sponsor fillies bonus

Shadwell has reaffirmed its commitment to British racing by launching a new £25,000 bonus for any filly who wins both the Dick Poole Stakes and Rockfel Stakes this year.

The scheme, which will also run in 2020, will award participating owners a £25,000 payout if their filly wins the Group 3 Shadwell Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes over 6f at Salisbury on Thursday, September 5, and the Group 2 Shadwell Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket over 7f on Friday, September 27.

No filly has completed the double, although the Roger Varian-trained YOURTIMEISNOW attempted it last season. Having won well at Salisbury, the filly failed to fire at Newmarket behind the Aidan O’Brien-trained JUST WONDERFUL, who is a leading fancy for next week’s 1,000 Guineas.

However, if a filly does manage to complete the double in 2019 they will amass earnings of more than £100,000, with the Shadwell Dick Poole Stakes worth £26,270.15 to the winner, a sum of £56,710 going to the winner of the Shadwell Rockfel Stakes, plus the additional £25,000 bonus.

Both races have thrown up several high-class performers. The Shadwell Rockfel Stakes has been the springboard for a number of glittering careers, with former winners SPECIOSA, FINSCEAL BEO and the late JUST THE JUDGE going on to Classic glory, while the Shadwell Dick Poole Stakes has been won by the likes of multiple Group 1 scorer CRIMPLENE and more recently FRANKEL’S half-sister JOYEUSE and Richard Hannon’s talented filly ANNA NERIUM.

Richard Lancaster, Shadwell Stud Director, said: “We are delighted to be launching the Shadwell Fillies Bonus in 2019 and it is another indication of Sheikh Hamdan’s unwavering commitment to British racing.

“It will be the second year Shadwell have sponsored the Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury and it dovetails perfectly with the Shadwell-sponsored day at Newmarket later that month, which is headed by the Rockfel Stakes. There are three weeks between the two races, which should give trainers more than enough time if they wish to attempt to land the double.

“The two races have proven track records of producing high-class fillies, who have the potential to go and compete in the following season’s Classics and we hope the lure of an additional £25,000 will not only maintain but enhance the level of filly competing in the two races.”
