Baaeed is officially named the Highest Rated Turf Horse in the World

The accolades keep on coming for the brilliant six-time Group 1 winner

Shadwell homebred BAAEED (GB) was crowned the Highest Rated Turf Horse in the World in 2022 at the Longines World Racing Awards on Tuesday 17th January 2023.

Baaeed became the highest rated turf racehorse in a decade after his performance in the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York Racecourse. The rating of 135 is the highest rating given on turf since Frankel in 2012.

Including that brilliant victory, the son of Sea The Stars emphatically triumphed in four Group 1 races in 2022, these were in the Lockinge, the Queen Anne, the Sussex as well as that famous Juddmonte International. All in all he won ten consecutive races from his debut including two further Group 1 victories in 2021 in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp as a 3 year old.

The Longines highest rated turf horse in the world now adds to the ever growing list of accolades. Baaeed has also been awarded Cartier Horse of the Year, ROA Horse of the Year and ROA Outstanding Miler for 2022.

Stephen Collins, European Bloodstock Manager, shared his thoughts on the award:

“Sheikha Hissa, her family and everyone at Shadwell and Derrinstown are honoured that Baaeed has been crowned the highest rated turf horse in the world for 2022. His racing career was a wonderful journey and he very much caught the public’s imagination with his outstanding talent. He is a horse of a lifetime! His exemplary pedigree has been developed by the late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his family for over 40 years and we are now very excited by the standard of mare he has received in his first year at stud. Hopefully, he will be as successful a stallion as he was a racehorse.”

Baaeed will stand his first season at Nunnery Stud in 2023 at an opening covering fee of £80,000.
