Muhaarar filly Paix an easy Listed winner at Vichy

Two and a half-length victory for Francis-Henri Graffard's charge
Muhaarar: received strong support from Ecurie des Monceaux

PAIX, a three-year-old from the first crop of champion sprinter MUHAARAR, confirmed herself a filly out of the top drawer with an impressive victory in the Listed Prix Frederic de Lagrange at Vichy on July 24.

The filly, trained by Francis-Henri Graffard for her breeders Ecurie Skymarc Farm and Ecurie des Monceaux, stalked the leaders at the back of the field and challenged wide in the home straight, before bounding clear to register a two and a half-length victory.

There should be more to come from PAIX, who has a May 16 foaling date and is relatively lightly raced, so is entitled to improve again.

It was a deserved result for Ecurie des Monceaux, who have been strong supporters of MUHAARAR at Nunnery Stud. The Normandy nursery also bred the smart colt ENEMY from the stallion, as well as colts out of AFRICAN SKIES and ROYAL HIGHNESS who sold at the Arqana August Yearling Sale for €280,000 and €160,000 respectively.

PAIX is out of the Group 3-winning mare PACIFIQUE, a daughter of MONTJEU and Ecurie des Monceaux and Skymarc Farm’s great producer PLATONIC, whose son ENGLISH KING won this year’s Lingfield Derby Trial and ran a creditable fifth in the big race at Epsom.

PLATONIC is best known, though, as the dam of PRUDENZIA – an outstanding broodmare who has produced Group 1 winners CHICQUITA and MAGIC WAND, as well as the aforementioned ENEMY.

MUHAARAR, who lit up the 2015 Flat season with thrilling victories in the Commonwealth Cup, July Cup, Prix Maurice de Gheest and British Champions Sprint, is also the sire of black-type performers ALBAFLORA, CONCESSIONS, ORCHID GARDENS and UNFORGETABLE.
