Cartier Three Year Old Filly 2014 TAGHROODA

The Cartier Awards are one of the most prestigious awards events of the racing year and Shadwell and its associates were honoured twice over in 2014.
Our dual Gr.1 winning daughter of Sea The Stars, TAGHROODA was crowned 2014 Cartier Three Year Old Filly. She was bred and raised between Shadwell Stud in the UK and Derrinstown Stud in Ireland, was trained by John Gosden and was ridden in all her Group races by retained jockey Paul Hanagan.
She won the Epsom Oaks (Gr.1) on only her third start and followed it up with a win in the Gr.1 King George VI & Queen Elisabeth Stakes at Ascot. She is the first filly since 1976 to achieve this feat of racing excellence; she ended her career with a very creditable 3rd place in the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
TAGHROODA has now retired from racing and has joined the Shadwell broodmare band. She will visit 2014 Cartier Horse of the Year KINGMAN in her first season at stud.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement that our patron, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was awarded the Cartier/ Daily Telegraph Award of Merit for services to racing. Since 1980, Sheikh Hamdan has invested time, money and passion in to the global Thoroughbred racing industry. Over 100 horses have achieved Gr.1 success in his colours and he has never been out of the top 10 leading owners in the UK for the last 30 years.
