History was made on May 6th, when brothers MUSTAAQEEM and RAFEEF, who were both trained by Mike de Kock for HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, scored a Grade 1 double under Callan Murray on Champions Day at Turffontein in South Africa.

Their achievements have not gone unnoticed, with both Redoute’s Choice colts nominated for the 2017 Racing Association Feature Season Awards. MUSTAAQEEM holds a nomination for the Champion two-year-old colt/gelding category, while his four-year-old brother RAFEEF has been nominated for the Champion Sprinter award.

MUSTAAQEEM, a A$1.75 million purchase from Arrowfield Stud at the 2016 Inglis Easter Sale, won the Grade 1 South African Nursery in spectacular fashion by 4 lengths, with only the experience of his debut win behind him. Three hours later, older brother RAFEEF, who was sourced at the Inglis Easter Sale form the Arrowfield draft in 2014 for A$800,000, stormed home in the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint, making it four wins from six starts this season including the Grade 2 Hawaii Stakes at Turffontein in March.

Bred by Arrowfield Stud in partnership with Klawervlei Stud, the brothers are out of three-time Grade-1 winning sprinter NATIONAL COLOUR, whose winning form as a three-year-old extended to her six-year-old career, when she was narrowly beaten in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at Newmarket.

The Racing Association Feature Awards will take place on Tuesday, May 30th. Congratulations to HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mike de Kock and to all of the team.
