Star Shadwell mares enter Mohaather’s first book

Retired Group 1 heroine Nazeef among the stellar line-up
Mohaather: top mares have been reserved for the Sussex Stakes hero

Shadwell will support brilliant miler MOHAATHER with a number of its top broodmares during the horse’s first season standing at Nunnery Stud in 2021 — including newly retired dual top-level winner NAZEEF.

By INVINCIBLE SPIRIT out of the Listed-winning DUBAWI mare HANDASSA, NAZEEF was sent out by John Gosden to notch victories in the Listed Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes, Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes, Group 1 Falmouth Stakes and Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes in 2020.

NAZEEF also finished third in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes during that busy four-year-old season, and was described as “tough as nails” by her regular jockey Jim Crowley.

She is one of three Group 1-winning members of the Shadwell broodmare band being sent to MOHAATHER, alongside GHANAATI, a daughter of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY descended from matriarch HEIGHT OF FASHION who landed the 1,000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes, and MAJMU, an Australian-bred daughter of REDOUTE’S CHOICE who scored in the Cape Fillies Guineas and Empress Club Stakes in South Africa.

Other high-class Shadwell mares due to visit MOHAATHER include:

RUMOUSH, a RAHY half-sister to GHANAATI who won the Listed Feilden Stakes and ran third in the Oaks. She is already the dam of stakes winners MUNTAZAH, TALAAYEB and WADILSAFA.

NAFAAYES, an Australian-bred daughter of EXCEED AND EXCEL who was a dual Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1-placed in South Africa.

FADHAYYIL, winner of the Listed City of York Stakes and runner-up in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes. She is by TAMAYUZ out of dual Group 3 winner ZIRIA.

YASMEEN, a daughter of SEA THE STARS who ran second in the Listed Michael Seely Memorial Stakes. She is a half-sister to stakes winners ETHAARA, MUDAARAAH and SUDOOR.

MOHAATHER‘s first book will also contain the dam of a Classic winner owned by Shadwell in ASHEERAH, a Listed-placed daughter of SHAMARDAL who produced Irish 2,000 Guineas hero AWTAAD.

Furthermore, it will include ALAATA, a SMART STRIKE half-sister to prolific winner HAATHEQ, and SHAAQAAF, a winning daughter of SEPOY owned by Sheikha Hissa Bint Hamdan.

MOHAATHER retires to Nunnery Stud having won five of his eight starts, headed by the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at two, Group 3 Greenham Stakes at three and Group 2 Summer Mile and Group 1 Sussex Stakes at four.

He showed an electric turn of foot to defeat elite winners CIRCUS MAXIMUS, SISKIN and KAMEKO in the Sussex Stakes, stopping the clock in a faster time than KINGMAN achieved when he won the race.

The son of SHOWCASING hails from an in-form family, as his Grade 2-winning full-sister PRIZE EXHIBIT is the dam of a Galileo colt who sold for 2,800,000gns at the yearling sales in 2020 and another half-sister, ROODLE, is the mother of Queen Anne Stakes victor ACCIDENTAL AGENT.

Further back it is the family of Group 1-winning two-year-olds ASTAIRE and DEAD CERTAIN as well as Prix Morny runner-up GALLAGHER.

Shadwell Stud Director, Richard Lancaster, said: “MOHAATHER was an exceptional talent – to do what he did in the Sussex Stakes was quite phenomenal. It’s rare for a horse to possess such a potent turn of foot, but he displayed it on several occasions when winning Group races at two, three and four.

“Sheikh Hamdan has demonstrated his belief and confidence in MOHAATHER by sending a plethora of top-class mares, headed by a trio of top-flight winners, including this year’s exceptional miler NAZEEF.

“MOHAATHER is an outstanding individual. He’s beautifully balanced and is blessed with an exceptional walk. These attributes, combined with his race record and outstanding temperament, have ensured he’s been very popular with breeders ahead of the 2021 breeding season.”

MOHAATHER is being introduced to breeders at a fee of £20,000.

Interested breeders should contact the Shadwell team to discuss your options or fill in an application form for a nomination.
