Where are they now?

In the second installment we take a look at three former Shadwell residents flourishing in their second careers

KHAIRAAT
Although only rehomed by Matt last October, the partnership has flourished and had there not been so many events cancelled due to the adversely wet winter they would have already had some dressage competitions under their belts.

Since the Covid-19 outbreak Matt has kept KHAIRAAT ticking over and they’ll be raring to go once competitions are re-instated. KHAIRAAT is such an amicable character and just soaks up all that he is presented with.  He not only loves hacking out (including paddling!), but in order to add variety to his training he has been introduced to jumping which he is enjoying.

MAGHROOM
Retaining the name he was affectionately known by at Shadwell, Mushroom, this horse is full of character – a very cheeky and clever character – he should be a movie star!

Mushroom, although young, is incredibly sensible so has been the ideal horse to help Leonie regain confidence she’d lost with a previous horse.

They are thoroughly enjoying their training and have travelled to various camps and clinics as well as making their dressage debut towards the end of last year.

As Mushroom had a busy time, and with the awful weather, Leonie elected to give him the winter off planning to resume in March but of course the lockdown brought a halt to everyone’s plans. So at present Mushroom is having plenty of ground training and is also apparently learning a few tricks … perhaps in preparation for that film career.

TAMADDON
Tam has a lovely nature but he can be a bit quirky and feisty under saddle. However, Mark has been patient with him and, despite some little tantrums, has attended training clinics and some small competitions.

As with so many, a winter campaign was planned but the weather put a stop to that. Mark has kept Tam ticking over during the lockdown in order to keep him focused as he begins to mature more both mentally and physically. Once the lockdown restrictions permit equestrian sport to restart, Mark and Tam are set to go.  Tam is blessed with lovely paces and will be focussing on dressage this year.
