CLASSIC WINNER TAGHROODA AMONG THE SELECT BOOK OF MARES TO VISIT MUHAARAR IN 2017
Posted on: 11th Jan 2017
Another bold move from HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as Oaks heroine TAGHROODA is chosen to visit his own European Champion Sprinter MUHAARAR this season.
Dual Group 1 and Classic winner TAGHROODA headlines the elite group of mares that are lined up to visit 2015 Champion Sprinter MUHAARAR in his second season.
The very talented daughter of Sea The Stars, who raced to victory in the 2014 Group 1 Investec Oaks and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, was beaten only half a length by TAPESTRY in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks in her penultimate start. TAGHROODA finished only 1 ¼ lengths behind TREVE and FLINTSHIRE in the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on her last outing, compiling an impressive record of four wins from six starts, having never finished out of the top three.
TAGHROODA, along with fellow Group 1 winning Shadwell mare ENTISAAR lead a total of 11 mares, with which HH Sheikh Hamdan is supporting MUHAARAR in his second season.
From a strong second book, of which 70% are stakes mares/stakes producers, are the producers of a further 11 individual Group 1/Classic winners. This bunch of blue-blooded broodmares that are scheduled to visit MUHAARAR is headed by TARFAH, the dam of 4 time Group 1 and 3 time Classic winner CAMELOT. CAMELOT, who was also crowned Champion 2-year-old in 2011, narrowly missed out on claiming the title of 4 time Classic winner when he was beaten by ¾ of a length by Encke in the Group 1 St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster in 2012.
TARFAH will be joined by the dams of Group 1 winners TAMAYUZ, TOORMORE, HARBOUR WATCH, ROBIN OF NAVAN, RED CADEAUX, PLANTEUR and MAAREK, to name but a few.
The first of MUHAARAR’s keenly anticipated first crop of foals is set to arrive this month; the result of an outstanding first book of mares, the standard of which he has also maintained in his second season.
Stud Director, Richard Lancaster commented on MUHAARAR’S career to date:
“We worked very hard to get MUHAARAR an excellent second book of mares in 2017 and we are very pleased with the result. He has again been supported strongly by Shadwell and Godolphin as well as some very prominent owner and commercial breeders; we are very thankful for their continued support. MUHAARAR has developed in to a very impressive stamp of a horse with strength and good looks that belie his easy and athletic action. With a top-class first book of mares and his own physical superiority, we are looking forward to his first crop of foals with confidence.”
MUHAARAR will cover a limited book of mares in 2017 at the Nunnery Stud for a fee of £30,000 1st January SLF.
