First MUHAARAR foal proves popular at London Sale

The first MUHAARAR foal to come under the hammer at auction did not disappoint selling with her dam BALDOVINA for £300,000

The Goffs London Sale at The Orangery, Kensington Palace was a fitting venue for the first foal by Champion Sprinter MUHAARAR to come under the hammer and the attractive filly did not disappoint, selling to Alastair Donald on behalf of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha for £300,000 on Monday evening.

Bred and consigned by Andrew Black’s Chasmore Farm, the filly was sold alongside her dam BALDOVINA, who had the added appeal of being in foal to leading French sire LE HAVRE.

BALDOVINA, a 13-year-old daughter of TALE OF THE CAT, has produced two winners, headed by CEILING KITTY, whose biggest success came in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

CEILING KITTY died last year, but her legacy lives on through daughter FORMIDABLE KITT. The INVINCIBLE SPIRIT two-year-old will bid to follow in the footsteps of her dam when she lines up in this year’s Queen Mary Stakes, carrying the colours of Andrew Black’s Chasemore Farm for trainer Tom Dascombe, who saddled CEILING KITTY to win the race in 2012.

Bred and raced by HH Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, MUHAARAR was a high-class juvenile, scoring in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes, but it was as a three-year-old that he established himself as a horse of the highest calibre.

The son of OASIS DREAM  thrived for a drop back to sprint distances and was crowned Champion Sprinter in 2015 on the back of a stunning season, during he notched four victories at the highest level in the Commonwealth Cup, July Cup and Qipco British Champions.

MUHAARAR’S first foals have been impressing breeders across Europe this year and it is no surprise considering the quality of his first book.

More than 80 per cent of MUHAARAR’S first book was made up of stakes winners and producers of stakes winners, with 19 mares being either Group/Grade 1 or Classic winners themselves or the producers of Group/Grade 1 winners.

Richard Lancaster, Shadwell Stud Director commented: “We’re delighted for Andrew Black and his team at Chasemore Farm. The mare had already produced a Royal Ascot winner in CEILING KITTY and her MUHAARAR foal, plus the fact she is foal to LE HAVRE, just added value to what was already a highly desirable package.

“We’re thrilled the first ever foal by MUHAARAR to come under the hammer at public auction was so well received and it bodes well for the rest of the year. We will be following the filly’s career with keen interest and wish her new connections the best of luck.”
