Madhmoon: son of Dawn Approach was unbeaten at two

The Flat season is up and running and the Shadwell horses have been in fine early form, a point emphasised by exciting three-year-old colt MOHAATHER, who displayed a decent turn of foot when winning the Group 3 Greenham Stakes earlier this month.

However, the Marcus Tregoning-trained son of Showcasing will not contest this year’s 2,000 Guineas and is unlikely to be seen until later in the season having met with a setback.

Shadwell are likely to be represented on the Rowley Mile in the first Classic of the year by talented three-year-old MADHMOON. Kevin Prendergast unleashed the Shadwell-bred son of Dawn Approach at Leopardstown this month in the Listed 2,000 Guineas Trial over 7f and having travelled with plenty of zest, he blew up in the last furlong. A Group 2 winner over 1m as a juvenile, MADHMOON should appreciate going back up in trip and the likely better underfoot conditions at Newmarket.

The Craven meeting at Newmaket produced plenty of taking performances, but a filly who really caught the eye was MAQSAD, who displayed a fine attitude when narrowly beating Twist And Shout in the 1m Fillies’ maiden, the pair pulling an impressive nine lengths clear of the third.

The Siyouni filly displayed a decent level of ability at two and has clearly improved with another winter under her belt. She has been pencilled in for the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket on Sunday.

Last year's Group 1 Commonwealth Cup hero EQTIDAAR made his eagerly awaited reappearance at Leicester in the Listed King Richard III Stakes. The Invincible Spirit half-brother to Group 2 winner and Classic-placed performer MASSAAT travelled powerfully, but faded in the final furlong to finish fifth. It was the first time EQTIDAAR had run over 7f and he could be destined for a drop back to 6f.

A select group of Shadwell juveniles have made early debuts with ALMINOOR heading the ranks. The Mark Johnson-trained son of Kodiac was second on debut earlier this before going on to score in taking style at Pontefract on his second start.
