Awtaad's daughter Anisette takes the US by Storm

The Morera Partnership bred filly was hugely impressive at Del Mar

In the early hours of Saturday morning, Derrinstown’s Awtaad showed us yet again that he is a proven source of top-class talent as his daughter Anisette romped home in the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes at Del Mar.

The now Leonard Powell trainee powered clear by an ever growing two and a half lengths from a number of talented three-year-old fillies with graded stakes form. Grade 1 events now surely await and if she can replicate or even improve her performance from this mile contest she would have a strong chance of achieving honours at the highest-level.

Out of Teofilo mare Tutti Frutti who is a close relation to Group 1 Nassau winner Sultanina, Anisette had been in training with Kevin Philippart De Foy as a two-year-old where she improved on every one of her three starts. The last being an easy 4-length victory at Wolverhampton in December. She was then sold to the US in a deal brokered by Avenue Bloodstock to her new connections, owners Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and trainer Leonard Powell. This move was quickly justified as she scored in fine style at Santa Anita in May before undertaking her Grade 2 task on just her second start in North America.

Anisette builds on an already fruitful season for Awtaad who has also notably sired Group 1 Prix d’Ispahan winner Anmaat and Group 3 JRA Plate winner Diamil in 2023. Being a Group 1 sire and the producer of nine individual stakes winners, he continues to demonstrate he is one of the best value sires in Europe at an incredibly modest fee of just €5,000 for the 2023 season.
