Baaeed and Bradsell make it a day to remember at Royal Ascot

Excellent results for Shadwell at the prestigious meeting

The first day of Royal Ascot 2022 brought some brilliant results for Shadwell.

First of all, homebred four-year-old colt Baaeed mantained his unbeaten run with a smooth success in the opening race of the meeting, the Queen Anne Stakes.

The William Haggas-trained colt’s record now stands at eight victories from as many starts, having also taken competitive renewals of the Prix du Moulin and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes last year and the Lockinge Stakes on his seasonal reappearance in 2022.

Baaeed is a Sea The Stars full-brother to recent Coronation Cup hero Hukum out of Aghareed, a Listed-winning daughter of Kingmambo and Shadwell’s Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine Lahudood. In turn, Lahudood is descended from the late Sheikh Hamdan’s wonderful blue hen mare Height Of Fashion, whose offspring included the champions Nashwan and Nayef.

Shadwell’s outstanding day continued when Bradsell, a son of Nunnery Stud first-season sire Tasleet, won the very next race on the card, the prestigious Coventry Stakes, in decisive fashion.

Bradsell, a nine-length winner on debut at York last month, was bred by Deborah O’Brien and is the fourth foal and first winner out of Radley Stakes winner Russian Punch, a daughter of Archipenko.

He was bought by Tom Biggs of Blandford Bloodstock for £47,000 from consignor Mark Grant’s draft at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale in April, before entering training with Archie Watson.

Tasleet now has five winners to his credit, also including the useful fillies Carmela and Omniqueen.
