RAQIYA awarded the Gr.3 Oak Tree Stakes in the stewards' room
It was a deserved first Group race success for Raqiya, who has now won four of her seven starts for trainer Owen Burrows, including the Listed Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury earlier this year.
Shadwell’s smart homebred three-year-old filly Raqiya was awarded the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes at Glorious Goodwood in the stewards’ room on Wednesday.
She had initially finished a head second to first-past-the post Jabaara, who drifted across her and caused significant interference when hitting the front.
It was a deserved first Group race success for Raqiya, who has now won four of her seven starts for trainer Owen Burrows, including the Listed Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury earlier this year.
She is a Blue Point half-sister to Ribhi out of Rihaam, an unraced Danehill half-sister to stakes winners Ethaara, Mudaaraah and Sudoor, as well as stakes-placed Muwaary and Yasmeen.
It is a family brimming with black type. Sudoor is the dam of Prix Noailles winner Raseed and granddam of dual Jebel Hatta hero Alfareeq; Ethaara is the dam of Newmarket Listed scorer Etaab; Yasmeen is the dam of John Musker Stakes winner Shaara; and another sibling, Mejala, produced this year’s Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up A Lilac Rolla.
In fact, this is one of Shadwell’s oldest and most prestigious dynasties. Rihaam’s dam Wissal was a full-sister to Champagne Stakes winner and Champion Stakes third Bahhare and half-sister to champion Bahri, who sired the outstanding Sakhee.
Shadwell's Greenham Stakes victor Muqbil, Fred Darling Stakes winner Muthabara and Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial scorer Rawaaq are also members of this family.
