Mohaather debutant lands big sales race pot in Deauville

"The Joseph O’Brien-trained filly, whose victory was worth just shy of £70,000 for owners Go Racing, looked the ultimate professional..."

Mohaather’s red-hot run with his first two-year-olds shows no signs of stopping.

His latest winner Mojave River looked potentially high-class when scoring by two lengths in the highly valuable Arqana Series des Pouliches for unraced two-year-old fillies over seven furlongs at Deauville on Thursday.

The Joseph O’Brien-trained filly, whose victory was worth just shy of £70,000 for owners Go Racing, looked the ultimate professional when taking an early lead in her group and only needing to be pushed out to comfortably beat all her rivals.

“Mojave River is a lovely filly with a good attitude,” reported O’Brien after the race. “She was bought by Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock at the breeze-ups and she had the benefit of that experience coming here today.

“I'm delighted to win a good pot for Go Racing, who have been very good supporters of mine. The horses race here for their two- and three-year-old seasons and then they go to Australia most likely to race later on. This looks like a nice filly with stakes potential this season.”

Mojave River was bred by Smarden Thoroughbreds out of the placed Soldier Hollow mare Quintessenz, a half-sister to stakes winners Quelle Amore, Quidamo and Qsar. She was bought from the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze-Up Sale for €105,000.

Mojave River's exciting victory comes hot on the heels of Chesneys Charm winning a Chelmsford maiden for Michael Bell and Dan Astbury and partners, Skellig Isle scoring in a Nottingham maiden for Tom Ward and Hot to Trot Racing, and Corriamo winning a Leicester nursery for Mohaather’s former trainer Marcus Tregoning and Aurelius Racing.

The flurry of success means the sire now has nine winners, including two who have struck at black-type level: Molecomb Stakes victor Big Mojo and Rose Bowl Stakes scorer Yah Mo Be There.

His strike-rate of 6.1 per cent black-type winners to runners is the best of any European-based first-season sire, by some margin.
