Shadwell announced as the leading British-based Flat breeder in 2023

Shadwell has been announced as the winner of the Queen’s Silver Cup for leading British-based Flat breeder in 2023, one of the most prestigious honours in the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association’s annual awards.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony in July. They are calculated from racecourse results throughout the calendar year and include both British and Irish statistics for British-based stallions and breeders.
It is the third time that Shadwell has collected the award, after 1999 and 2005.
Shadwell bred and raced three Group 1 winners in 2023. Mostahdaf, new to Beech House Stud this year, landed the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot by four lengths and a strong renewal of the Juddmonte International, while Hukum, a full-brother to champion and Shadwell stallion Baaeed, prevailed in a thrilling renewal of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Al Husn, who defeated Group 1 winners Above The Curve, Nashwa and Blue Rose Cen to win the Nassau Stakes, completed the trio.
Shadwell’s illustrious royal blue silks with white epaulets were also carried to victory in the past year in Britain and Ireland by homebred Group 2 winners Alflaila, Israr and Mutasaabeq, as well as Group 3 scorer and Group 1 runner-up Alyanaabi.
Stephen Collins, European Bloodstock Manager for Shadwell, commented: “We are delighted to be the recipient of the Queen’s Silver Cup for leading British-based breeder in 2023.
“It’s a testament to Sheikh Hamdan’s vision and legacy, which is being carried on by Sheikha Hissa with great success, and we are very much looking forward to this prestigious event later in the year. Last year is going to be hard to follow but hopefully Shadwell will have a successful 2024 with some promising horses coming through.”
Claire Sheppard, Chief Executive of the TBA, added: “The statistical awards are important in highlighting track success of British based breeders and stallions and we look forward to presenting the winners in person at the annual Flat Season Awards on 10 July.”
