BAAEED - The first foals everyone has been waiting for...

“This Baaeed filly is an exceptional foal. She has size, strength and substance, is correct and moves effortlessly. There is tonnes of class and quality. We couldn’t be happier.”

When the outstanding Baaeed retired to the Shadwell stallion roster, many of the world’s leading breeders were quick to throw their support behind the world champion son of Sea The Stars. He duly covered an exceptional limited first book of 162 mares. Those same breeders are now welcoming Baaeed’s first foals, and the early members of his debut crop have been receiving high praise.

Among the mares who have already delivered their Baaeed foal is Kamakura, dam of the Listed-winning and multiple Grade 1 placed, Be Your Best. Breeder Mike Ryan said: “This Baaeed filly is an exceptional foal. She has size, strength and substance, is correct and moves effortlessly. There is tonnes of class and quality. We couldn’t be happier.

Baaeed also received a well-related member of Haras d'Etreham’s broodmare band in the shape of Koubalibre, a winning Galileo half-sister to Tiggy Wiggy. “We have a very nice colt,” said Nicolas de Chambure. “He is well put together, balanced with a lot of quality. He has been stamped by Baaeed. We are very happy and have used him again this year.

Similar comments were shared by James Wigan, whose Group 3 Prix de Lieurey winner Cloudy Dawn delivered a filly. The dam is closely related to Listed scorer Iromea and is out of a half-sister to Prix du Moulin heroine Grey Lilas.

I am delighted with Cloudy Dawn’s Baaeed filly, who is a strong, well-made foal with lots of depth and good bone,” said Wigan.

Also welcoming a daughter of Baaeed is Adrian O'Brien of Hazelwood Bloodstock. This youngster is out of Essafinaat UK’s Ragsah, a Shamardal half-sister to the brilliant Dubai Millennium whose three winners at paddocks include the Grade 2-placed Richmond Avenue. Connections are so taken with their new arrival that the mare is returning to Baaeed this year.

This is a high-quality filly from an iconic family,” said O’Brien. “She has plenty of size and scope with loads of presence. We are delighted with her and the mare is booked in to revisit him.”

Another high-end Newmarket operation with a Baaeed foal on the ground is the Cumanis’ Fittocks Stud, where Baisse delivered a well-related colt. The youngster is a sibling to three winners, most notably Australian Group 1 scorer Best Of Days.

He is a lovely, strong colt, probably the best the mare has had,” said Sara Cumani. “We couldn't be happier with him at this early stage.

Mylestown Farms purchased Lucilia, a Kodiac sister to Group 2 Rockfel Stakes winner Hello You, in foal to Baaeed at Arqana last December. This first foal is another to have inherited his sire’s striking good looks.

We are very happy with him,” said Patrick Cosgrove. “He is a strong, quality first foal being a good size, correct and athletic. I see a lot of Baaeed in him.

Baaeed’s first ever offspring, the bay filly out of Mejthaam, was born at Haras de la Perelle in Normandy in January. Another leading French nursery with a Baaeed foal on the ground is Ecurie des Monceaux, where the Listed-winning Think Of Me delivered a filly.

Our filly is full of quality, strong, correct and a good size,” Monceaux director Henri Bozo said of the youngster bred by Clear Light SAS. “We are very pleased with her.”

Among those blue-chip mares delivering their own Baaeed foal in 2024 are the top-level winners Deirdre, Eshaada, Nazeef, Persuasive, Queen’s Trust, Seal Of Approval, Search For A Song, Star Of Seville, The Fugue and Wavering, along with the dams of elite winners Accidental Agent, Best Of Days, Native Trail, Persian King, Siyarafina and Ten Sovereigns. Baaeed's glittering first book included 10 Group 1 winners, 8 producers of Group 1 winners, 45 sisters to Group 1 winners and 93 Stakes performers.

Baaeed won six Group 1 contests and achieved an Official Rating of 135, the highest European mark allocated since Frankel. Shadwell’s exceptional homebred is standing his second season at Beech House Stud at a fee of £80,000.
