MOHAATHER'S TWO-YEAR-OLDS READY TO MAKE THEIR MARK
"If Mohaather’s first runners are anything like him, they will be ready to roll this year..."
Everything looks in place for exciting young Shadwell stallion Mohaather to make a big impact with his first crop of two-year-olds this season.
Those that were offered as yearlings proved popular, with five selling for six-figure sums. The most expensive was the colt out of the Listed-placed No Nay Never mare Jm Jackson bought by Conor Quirke for 175,000gns. He will be trained by Mick Appleby for RP Racing, the team behind last year’s two-year-old sprinting sensation Big Evs.
Sackville Donald were evidently impressed with Mohaather’s stock, as they gave 165,000gns for the half-brother to black-type winners Snooze N You Lose and Zaman, who has been named Pivotal Days and placed with Ed Walker, and 135,000gns for a colt out of smart sprinter Under The Covers, who has gone to Tim Easterby.
The filly out of the winning Dansili mare Blue Geranium knocked down to McKeever Bloodstock for £105,000 is in the care of Charlie Hills, while the half-brother to classy trio Hors De Combat, Stroll Patrol and Yourtimeisnow bought by Howson and Houldsworth Bloodstock on behalf of the Guest family for 100,000gns has been named Noble Guest and sent into training with George Margarson.
Mohaather has received strong support from Shadwell throughout, both from the broodmare band and in the sales ring. Eight two-year-olds are in training and destined to carry the famous blue and white silks, these include a filly who is the first offspring of dual Group 1 heroine Nazeef, a half-sister to superstar Mostahdaf; another filly out of top South African racemare Nafaayes; colts out of City of York Stakes winner Fadhayyil and South African champion Majmu; and a half-sister to Listed scorer Shaara.
Also amongst first crop also are Family Knight, a half-brother to Gr.1 Canadian International hero Walton Street in training with Richard Hughes, as well as half-brothers to July Stakes victor Jasour; high-class juveniles La Rioja, Lilbourne Lass and Pastoral Girl; Listed winners Solomon’s Bay and Tammani; German Listed scorer Romsey; and stakes-placed Clitheroe and Expensive Date.
There are also half-sisters to Group 2 winner San Huberto; Commonwealth Cup third Ventura Rebel; Blenheim Stakes scorer Sir Boris; Listed-winning two-year-old Ventura Mist; Listed second and Group 1 winning producer Reckoning; high-class filly American Sonja; and black type-placed two-year-olds Lady Aria and Union Rose.
Furthermore, the cohort includes a colt out of Oh So Sharp Stakes winner Raymi Coya and fillies out of smart racemares Oeuvre D’Art and Seeharn.
Among the trainers with Mohaather juveniles confirmed in their strings are; Mick Appleby, Ralph Beckett, George Boughey, Karl Burke, Clive Cox, Tim Easterby, Harry Eustace, Richard Fahey, James Ferguson, William Haggas, Richard Hannon, Charlie Hills, Eve Johnson Houghton, Richard Hughes, David Loughnane, George Margarson, Hugo Palmer, Kevin Philippart de Foy, Richard Spencer, Marcus Tregoning, Roger Varian, Ed Walker, and William Muir and Chris Grassick.
If Mohaather’s first runners are anything like him, they will be ready to roll this year. He won the Horris Hill Stakes by clear water at two before training on to win the Greenham Stakes at three and the Summer Mile and Sussex Stakes at four.
He is also by Showcasing, a noted source of precocious performers, out of Listed-placed two-year-old Roodeye. He is closely related to talented juveniles Astaire, Bannister, Dead Certain, Gallagher and Polly Pott.
