Minzaal's first-crop filly tops Goffs Premier Yearling Sale
"There are plenty more chances to buy Minzaal yearlings this year, with the next one coming up at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale in Newmarket next week."
Fevered demand for the first lots by Group 1 winning sprinter Minzaal at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale this week resulted in one of his daughters topping the whole auction and one of his sons also making a six-figure sum.
The Minzaal filly out of Listed winner Hateya from Manor Stud in Wiltshire became the most expensive lot of the week when selling to Shadwell’s racing manager Angus Gold for £190,000.
“We’ve got three by Minzaal at home which we like a lot and, like everybody, I was impressed with the foals last year,” reported Gold. “I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen here in Doncaster too.
“I thought this filly had a bit extra about her. She was as nice a filly as I saw here. She’s a lovely model with a great outlook and is a very good mover.”
Meanwhile Hugo Merry, co-breeder of the filly, couldn't of been more complementary of her - "she has tremendous balance, is compact and could be an Ascot filly. She has a completely natural, easy walk and wonderful temperament... She was shown an awful lot and a lot of people wanted to buy her."

In-form trainer Richard Hughes also had rave reviews for Minzaal after giving £135,000 for the sire's colt out of the Tamayuz mare Oriental Step, offered by WH Bloodstock.
“Everything we’ve seen by Minzaal we’ve liked,” said Hughes. “This is a lovely horse with nice balance and plenty of bone.”
Derrinstown Stud-based Minzaal, by record-breaking sire Mehmas, had ten lots change hands in Doncaster for an average of £65,200 – an outstanding return on his introductory covering fee of €15,000.
Among the purchasers of his other lots were renowned pinhookers Brown Island Stables and Longways Stables and top trainers Clive Cox and Ollie Sangster.
There are plenty more chances to buy Minzaal yearlings this year, with the next one coming up at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale in Newmarket next week.
