Minzaal Off to a Flying Start at the Craven Breeze-Up
"He is a great physical, has a great mind, did a great breeze and has a lovely fast ground action."
Minzaal has enjoyed outstanding support from Ireland’s leading breeders since retiring to stud, and the impact of that confidence is now coming to the fore. His first crop of two-year-olds made a striking impression at the Tattersalls Craven breeze-up sale, where their exceptional athleticism, temperaments and physical quality were clear to see.
The highest priced of the five lots offered at the sale was Lot 42 who fetched a superb 300,000gns. A smart bay colt out of the dual Group 3 winner Maimara, knocked down to Alastair Donald and consigned by Mocklershill, Ireland.
Donald, “He has been bought for Hong Kong client Mr Siu, who has been very lucky at this sale… it is to be decided whether the horse races here first and goes to Hong Kong later. He is a great physical, has a great mind, did a great breeze and has a lovely fast ground action.” He added: “I have been super impressed by the sire, his stock are very much a type. They cover a bit of ground and have that fast ground conformation. They seem to have very good minds.”
Lot 138, the striking 21st March born colt went the way of Peter Trainor for 160,000gns (P.S) consigned by Grangeclare, Ireland. He is a half-brother to two-year-old Group 2 winner Atomic Force.
The third six-figure lot, a first foal out of Singsong Lady, Lot 102 was scooped up by CGW Bloodstock for 150,000gns (P.S), consigned by Brown Island Stables.
He ended the sale with an impressive average of 159,000gns and a median of 150,000gns from five lots sold.
Minzaal stands at €12,500 at Shadwell’s Derrinstown Stud, offering exceptional value for breeders. A Group 1 Sprint Cup winner at four, he showed top-class form across all stages of his career, including Group 2 success at two in the Gimcrack Stakes. As Europe’s highest-rated sprinter in 2022 of his generation at four, his sales results to date now suggest he is passing on that same class, speed, and professionalism to his progeny.
