Baaeed & Mohaather strike with successes in Deauville
Baaeed's headline yearling was the filly x Dubai Rose who sold to Al Shira’aa Racing for €800,000
Shadwell’s roster of young, exciting stallions enjoyed a productive spell at Deauville last week.
Baaeed, the brilliant European champion who stands at Beech House Stud, had five lots from his first crop change hands for an average of €312,400, totaling €1,562,000, an outstanding return on his initial covering fee of £80,000.
His filly out of the Listed-winning Dubai Destination mare Dubai Rose, thus a half-sister to Group winners Arabian Crown and The Juliet Rose, caused a sensation when sold by Ecurie des Monceaux to Al Shira’aa Racing for €800,000.
Al Shira’aa’s Kieran Lalor reported: “Generally, the boss prefers proven sires but she really loved this filly physically. She has a gorgeous walk. Baaeed, with the race record he has, was an incredible horse and comes from a great female family.”
Across the road at the racecourse, Baaeed’s Beech House Stud colleague Mohaather bagged another big winner when his second-crop son Cape Orator blew away his rivals in the lavishly endowed Arqana Series Criterium d'Ete over six and a half furlongs.
Now a winner of two of his three starts, Cape Orator is trained by Ralph Beckett for Valmont having been bought for €280,000 at the Arqana October Yearling Sale.
Alex Elliott, representing the owners, said: “He's a stunning horse with a frame that will make a three-year-old, so he was never going to be overraced at two. But he's always shown Ralph, from very early on, that he's got a lot of talent and I think he's shown it there. He could be a Group horse.”
Mohaather has delivered valuable sales race winners at Deauville’s summer meeting in each of his first two crops now, after daughter Mojave River bolted up in the Arqana Series des Pouliches on her debut for Joseph O’Brien last year.
The Sussex Stakes-winning son of Showcasing has also supplied top-class sprinter Big Mojo, Listed scorers Merveilleux Lapin and Yah Mo Be There, and Rockfel Stakes runner-up Serving With Style, among a host of winners.
