Another Stakes success for Awtaad's evergreen Al Qareem
A sixth black-type success for the six-year-old
Awtaad's admirably consistent son Al Qareem notched the first victory of his six-year-old campaign by bravely denying the smart mare Divine Comedy in the Listed Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham.
The Karl Burke-trained gelding has now won nine times, including in six black-type races. He has also finished placed another nine times.
The Ormonde Stakes at the Chester May meeting is reportedly likely to be his next assignment.
Al Qareem was bred by Shadwell out of Moqla, a half-sister to Earl of Sefton Stakes winner Mahsoob descended from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's champion two-year-old filly and 1,000 Guineas heroine Shadayid.
Awtaad, a 2,000 Guineas winner by Cape Cross, has supplied 17 black-type performers, headed by Group/Grade 1 winners Anmaat and Anisette. Widely acknowledged to be one of the best value sires in the business, he stands at Derrinstown Stud at a fee of €7,500.
