The top price for a debut Baaeed yearling this week was 625,000gns, whilst Minzaal's was 550,000gns

Brilliant European champion Baaeed's first lots were in strong demand at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, with 12 changing hands for an average of 237,917gns and median of 175,000gns.

Those figures represented an large return on the beautifully bred son of Sea The Stars' introductory covering fee of £80,000. 

The top price for a debut Baaeed yearling this week was 625,000gns, given by Shadwell for Corduff Stud's half-brother to Jersey Stakes winner Age Of Kings out of May Hill Stakes scorer Turret Rocks. 

Two other fillies made 410,000gns each: a half-sister to US Grade 1 winner Be Your Best consigned by Ballylinch Stud and bought by Amo Racing, and a half-sister to Listed scorer Lava Stream consigned by Harry Dutfield and bought by David Ingordo for Determined Stables.

Shadwell's other first-crop yearling sire, top two-year-old and Haydock Sprint Cup winner Minzaal, also continued to be popular at Book 1 having been in high demand at Goffs Orby also.

All six of the son of Mehmas's lots in the auction found new homes, for an average of 189,167gns and a median of 120,000gns.

Those results spelt big profits for breeders, as his opening fee at Derrinstown Stud was only €15,000.

His most expensive yearling was Redpender Stud's half-sister to Asymmetric and Mill Stream sold to Amo Racing for 550,000gns.

Both Baaeed and Minzaal have plenty more representatives in Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales next week.
