Breeders express delight with Mostahdaf's first foals
Mostahdaf was supported by many of Europe’s leading breeders in his first season at stud and set to follow suit in 2025.
British and Irish breeders have been heaping praise on the first crop of foals by Mostahdaf, the outstanding winner of the Gr.1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes and Gr.1 Juddmonte International.
One of Mostahdaf’s earliest foals is a bay colt bred by Nick Bradley out of Seven Empires, a sister to five Stakes winners, including Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Sevenna’s Knight. Nick Bradley said: “Seven Empires’ colt is strong, correct, athletic with good bone. I’m very happy with him and I will be sending Mostahdaf two more mares this year.”
Kuwait Racing’s bay colt out of Divine, the Group 3 winning sprinter by Dark Angel, is another eye-catching early arrival. Ted Voute stated: “He is a cracking foal. A lovely, strong colt who will definitely be one to look forward to at the foal or yearling sales. He’d be a very good advert for the stallion.”

Colin Bryce, Laundry Cottage Stud, is also delighted with the bay colt out of the Group 3 placed sprinting daughter of Scat Daddy, Special Purpose, he said: “We are very happy with our colt, he is of a really good size and is correct. We think Mostahdaf is a very interesting stallion.”
Meanwhile, Shadwell’s own Derrinstown Stud in County Kildare has been graced with two of the first arrivals, both bay colts. The first out of Alaflaak, a sister to Aghareed, the dam of Baaeed and Hukum, and herself the dam of the very promising 3-year-old filly Falakayeh. The second colt is out of Ataared, a Stakes winning daughter of Muhaarar from the immediate family of Group 1 winner Tawkeel.
Stephen Collins, Shadwell’s European Bloodstock Manager, revealed: “We have two incredibly nice colts by Mostahdaf. They both have a huge amount of quality, are strong, athletic and correct as well as having great bone and depth of girth. Shadwell have supported Mostahdaf with a number of high class mares. The initial breeder feedback is very promising.”

Another highly-positive report came from Chris O’Dowd, who has bred a Mostahdaf half-brother to Stakes winning two-year-old sprinter Rocket Rodney. O’Dowd said: “I couldn’t be happier with my colt out of Alushta. He is a solid and well-bodied foal with an attractive head and a great outlook. I hope to use Mostahdaf again.”
Rebecca Marsh of Trinity Park Stud boards Marc Middleton Heath’s mare Alezan, the multiple winning sister to Stakes placed Zain Sarinda. Alezan has produced an ‘attractive’ bay filly. Full of positivity about the foal, Marsh said: “We are delighted with the Mostahdaf filly we have here. She’s an attractive, correct and powerful foal with plenty of size and bone.”
Mostahdaf was supported by many of Europe’s leading breeders in his first season at stud and set to follow suit in 2025. Those breeders were quick to note the value on offer given his elite ability; Officially Rated 128, the joint top-rated horse in Europe in 2023 with Ace Impact, Mostahdaf has a pedigree to match, being by Frankel out of Stakes winning Dubawi mare Handassa. This makes him a half-brother to dual Group 1 winning miler Nazeef and from the family of two Champion Sprinters, Pastoral Pursuits and Goodricke.
Mostahdaf stands for £12,500 (1st January SLF) in 2025 at Shadwell’s Beech House Stud in Newmarket.
