Excellent Goffs Orby Sale for Minzaal
Plenty of Shadwell-sired yearling upcoming at Tattersalls
Minzaal’s first-crop yearlings continue to be well received by the market, with all 11 of his representatives at Goffs Orby Book 1 this week changing hands for an average of €117,273 and median of €110,000.
The top price of €300,000 was paid by Joe Murphy’s Crampscastle Bloodstock for a half-sister to Group 3 winner One For Bobby out of the Listed-winning mare One Spirit, offered by The Castlebridge Consignment.
Other six-figure lots by Minzaal at the auction were bought by Legion Bloodstock, Amo Racing, Rabbah Bloodstock, Jason Kelly, Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock and Jamie McCalmont.
Minzaal maintained momentum in Goffs Orby Book 2, with another 100% clearance rate for all of his seven lots finding new homes. A top price of €80,000 was paid by renowned breeze-up consignor Willie Browne for a filly out of a half-sister to 1,000 Guineas runner-up Lucida.
Browne said of his purchase: “We saw her several times over the last couple of days and she’s the standout filly here. She’s a lovely walker and is very well put together. Her sire Minzaal was a fast horse and hopefully he’ll pass on that speed. From what I’ve seen of the sire's yearlings they’re sharp and look like they’ll be early two-year-olds.”
Minzaal has already sired the top lot at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in Doncaster, a filly out of the Listed-winning Footstepsinthesand mare Hateya who sold to Shadwell for £190,000, as well as a colt out of the well-bred Tamayuz mare Oriental Step who made £135,000 at the same auction.
Those results have been achieved off a €15,000 opening fee at Derrinstown.
Minzaal has six lots on offer at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale next week, and 29 in Book 2 and six in Book 3 the week after that.
Brilliant European champion and fellow Shadwell sire Baaeed’s first yearlings were also in strong demand at Goffs Orby, selling for €240,000, €125,000 and €100,000.
There are sure to be fireworks when 20 more of his debut lots are presented at Tattersalls October Book 1.
