Fit for a king - Bill Oppenheim assesses Baaeed's first two books
"Baaeed’s first two books of mares have the highest-average CPI of any European stallion since Frankel."
There is a general correlation between racing class and production class in mares, for which reason the better the books of mares a stallion receives, the better his chances of success. Racing class is summarised in a statistic known as the CPI (Class Production Index), which is produced by the US Jockey Club. The analysis shows that Baaeed’s first two books of mares have the highest-average CPI of any European stallion since Frankel.
The numbers are substantial, during his two northern hemisphere seasons he covered 150 individual Stakes performing mares including 112 Stakes winners and 18 Group 1 winners.
When looking at the production class of these books it is harder to compare stallions as it is almost impossible to pinpoint every stallion’s book at a particular moment in time. However, Baaeed’s first two books also contain an impressive proportion of Stakes producing mares, 100 individual producers of Stakes performers to be precise. 71 of these mares are the dams of one or more Stakes winners and 12 are the dams of Group 1 winners.
It must be noted a number of these mares visited Baaeed in both seasons.
From these assessments, the calibre of mares Baaeed has covered is exceptional for a stallion at his stage in his career. Add to this his racecourse performances and stallion profile, he qualifies as one of the most exciting stallion prospects of the last 30 years.
