Raaheeb, full brother to Baaeed and Hukum, scores in style on debut
“He's got a very laid-back attitude and I thought from that draw in stall one he was very professional”
Raaheeb, the full-brother to brilliant champion and exciting young Shadwell sire Baaeed and fellow dual Group 1 winner Hukum, got his career off to the perfect start with a decisive victory on debut at Ascot on Friday.
The Owen Burrows-trained colt travelled smoothly under Jim Crowley and took the lead a furlong from home. He stayed on determinedly to score by a length and a quarter to suggest he had at least some of his siblings’ immense talent.
“He's got a very laid-back attitude and I thought from that draw in stall one he was very professional,” Burrows told reporters. “He got a lot of cover but he travelled well and went through the race very pleasingly.
“Nothing's going to quicken in this ground too much because Jim said it's pretty soft, but he lengthened and went up through the gears and hit the line strongly. He's a miler now, and I think he'll be a mile-and-a-quarter, mile-and-a-half horse next year.
“He's only been on the grass once but he's done everything pleasingly at home, with a very laid-back attitude. We'll see how he comes out of it. Whatever we can get from him this year is just going to be a bonus.”
Raaheeb and his famous brothers were bred by Shadwell out of Aghareed, a Listed-winning daughter of Kingmambo and Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine Lahudood. They trace back to Shadwell matriarch Height Of Fashion.
Baaeed’s first yearlings are going under the hammer this year and have unsurprisingly already been in huge demand.
