Find out more about our mating plans in 2021
A look at the cream of the Shadwell broodmare band
Having revealed some of the home mares who will be covered by last year’s Sussex Stakes winner MOHAATHER in his first season at Nunnery Stud — including big names such as GHANAATI, MAJMU and NAZEEF — we are pleased to announce further Shadwell mating plans in 2021.
Nunnery Stud’s other stallions are also in line for significant support.
Among the mares visiting EQTIDAAR, the Commonwealth Cup-winning son of influential sire of sires INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, is TAMADHOR, a Listed-placed daughter of ARCANO from the immediate family of Royal Ascot-winning two-year-old MEMORY.
EQTIDAAR’s first foals have been arriving on studs in the past few weeks and the youngsters are earning rave reviews.
High-class sprinter TASLEET will be visited by MUDAARAAH, a Listed-winning and Group 3-placed daughter of CAPE CROSS whose previous progeny includes the useful miler SAWWAAH.
TASLEET, a son of SHOWCASING from the family of Shadwell’s record-breaking sprinter BATTAASH, has his first yearlings on the ground in 2021. The Group 2-winning sprinter’s foals sold for as much as ten times his covering fee at auction last year.
Champion sprinter MUHAARAR, a well-bred son of OASIS DREAM, has delivered nine black-type performers among his first two crops and is set to be represented by a number of exciting three-year-olds in 2021 — including Horris Hill Stakes winner MUJBAR and Vertem Futurity third BARADAR.
He will continue to receive a number of high-class Shadwell mares in the current breeding season, including ETAAB, a Listed winner from the family of champion BAHRI. Her two-year-old filly has entered training with William Haggas and is highly thought of by connections.
Derrinstown stallions
The stallions at Derrinstown Stud are also set to cover a number of Shadwell mares with strong credentials this year.
Stalwart TAMAYUZ, the source of 22 stakes winners including BLOND ME, G FORCE, MUSTASHRY and PRECIEUSE at the highest level, will be visited by SAFWA, a daughter of GREEN DESERT who is the dam of Lockinge Stakes hero MUSTASHRY.
SAFWA will be accompanied on the visit by her daughter by SHAMARDAL, RABAABAH.
Two mares making a repeat appearance in the book of TAMAYUZ are BETHRAH and MASAAFAT.
Irish 1,000 Guineas victress BETHRAH is the dam of three winners and has a nice yearling colt by the sire, while MASAAFAT produced the sire’s exciting three-year-old filly ZEYAADAH, who was unbeaten in three starts for Roger Varian last year including the Montrose Fillies’ Stakes.
Irish 2,000 Guineas winner AWTAAD is at an exciting time in his stallion career as he improved so much between his juvenile and Classic seasons, and he is represented by his first three-year-olds this year.
His book of mares will include RAWAAQ, a Group 3-winning daughter of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT.
Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner KING OF CHANGE is beginning his second career at Derrinstown this year, and among his debut mares will be QAADIRA, a winning MR GREELEY mare from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan’s illustrious HEIGHT OF FASHION family.
More leading ladies
Plans have also been finalised for the other jewels in Shadwell’s treasure chest of broodmares.
TAGHROODA, the fabulous Oaks and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner, will visit LOPE DE VEGA. The daughter of SEA THE STARS was represented by her first winner, the useful ALMIGHWAR, in 2020.
LOPE DE VEGA will also receive THAWAANY, a Group 3-winning and Group 1-placed TAMAYUZ half-sister to multiple top-flight winner KEW GARDENS, and MUTEBAH, a Listed-winning daughter of MARJU who is the dam of ALBASHEER, a creditable second in the Champagne Stakes for Shadwell last year. He is by LOPE DE VEGA’s late sire SHAMARDAL.
ENBIHAAR, the REDOUTE’S CHOICE mare who vindicated HH Sheikh Hamdan’s decision to keep her in training at five last year by winning the Lillie Langtry Stakes and Lonsdale Cup, has had KINGMAN appointed for her first cover.
KINGMAN will also cover Sweet Solera Stakes scorer TAJAANUS, a daughter of ARCANO; multiple Group 3 winner TANTHEEM, by TEOFILO; Blandford Stakes winner and Oaks runner-up TARFASHA, a daughter of TEOFILO who is the dam of stakes winner RAKAN and exciting three-year-old WUQOOD; and HANDASSA, the daughter of DUBAWI who produced last year’s Falmouth Stakes and Sun Chariot Stakes winner NAZEEF.
KINGMAN’s studmate FRANKEL will continue to receive good support from Shadwell and among his mares is TATWEEJ, a winning INVINCIBLE SPIRIT three-parts sister to champion PALACE PIER, as well as RAYAHEEN, a winning daughter of NAYEF and top two-year-old turned 1,000 Guineas winner NATAGORA who is the dam of the above-mentioned TAJAANUS.
SEA THE STARS has been booked for GARMOOSHA, a daughter of KINGMAMBO and Oaks heroine ESWARAH. She has already clicked with the sire to produce RAABIHAH, winner of the Prix de Psyche and a fast-finishing fifth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe last year. RAABIHAH stays in training at four this year.
SEA THE STARS’ son SEA THE MOON will cover ELRAAZY, a winning daughter of DUBAWI and ESWARAH.
ALGHABRAH, a stakes-placed TAMAYUZ half-sister to AWTAAD, and MAQSAD, a daughter of SIYOUNI who was a five-length winner of the Pretty Polly Stakes, are also bound for SEA THE STARS, along with ETTISAAL and MUHAWALAH, half-sisters to TAMAYUZ, and MUBHIRAH, a half-sister to TAGHROODA.
Shadwell homebred TAWKEEL, a daughter of TEOFILO who was an easy winner of the Prix Saint-Alary last year, is being matched with DUBAWI in her first year at stud. ALANDALOS, a winning daughter of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT and Classic heroine GHANAATI, is also set for DUBAWI.
Among the Shadwell mares being sent to DUBAWI’S promising sire son NIGHT OF THUNDER are AARAAS, the dam of Group 2 winner and Derby runner-up MADHMOON.
Another exciting stallion son of DUBAWI is TOO DARN HOT, and he will receive ELSHAADIN, a daughter of DALAKHANI who is the dam of last year’s Royal Ascot scorer KHALOOSY, and DUJAA, an unraced KINGMAN half-sister to TAGHROODA.
Exceptional two-year-old talent PINATUBO will be given a number of Shadwell mares including another half-sister to TAGHROODA in MAKTABA, who is by DANSILI.
MAQAASID, a Queen Mary Stakes winner and 1,000 Guineas third by GREEN DESERT, has a 2019 colt by DARK ANGEL in training with Marcus Tregoning and she will go back to him this year.
