Review - Mohaather's second crop of yearlings were in high-demand
"Mohaather has supplied eight lots who have fetched six-figure sums..."
Shadwell sire Mohaather’s excellent showing with his debut two-year-old runners this season was been rewarded with some big prices being paid for his second crop of yearlings.
Mohaather has supplied eight lots who have fetched six-figure sums, led by Lynn Lodge Stud’s colt out of Midnight Hush who was bought by Gaelic Bloodstock for 260,000gns at Book 2 and La Motteraye’s colt out of Mouille Point purchased for €280,000 by Alex Elliott at Arqana October Yearling Sale.
Back at Book 2, Federico Barberini gave 175,000gns for Glenvale Stud’s colt out of Panmolle, Harry Charlton paid 140,000gns for Ballyphilip Stud’s colt out of Redhawk, Jeremy Brummitt successfully bid 110,000gns for Hazelwood Bloodstock’s filly out of La Arenosa and Richard Hughes stumped up 110,000gns for Lakefield Farm’s colt out of Publicise.
Earlier in the yearling sales season, Clifton Farm’s colt out of Mutebah at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale was purchased by Joseph O’Brien for €180,000. Then later at Goff’s Autumn Yearling Sale Barry Lynch and Jack Davison took home a Shadwell-bred filly out of Aneen for €110,000.
Among the other buyers of Mohaather’s second-crop yearlings in recent weeks have been successful trainers Clive Cox, James Owen, Hugo Palmer, Yann Barberot and Marcus Tregoning – who oversaw the racing career of the sire, of course – as well as popular ownership entities Nick Bradley Racing and Rogues Gallery Racing, and leading agents Badgers Bloodstock, Oliver St Lawrence, Dermot Farrington, Sean Grassick, Peter and Ross Doyle and Conor Quirke.
The promising young stallion has also been popular among the breeze-up fraternity, with Mark Grant, George Peckham, Ardglas Stables and AN Bloodstock signing for his lots.
Mohaather has so far delivered 19 individual winners including Molecomb Stakes hero, Flying Childers Stakes runner-up and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint fourth Big Mojo, Rose Bowl Stakes scorer Yah Mo Be There, Merveilleux Lapin who was victorious in the Listed Alson-Trophy, and Rockfel Stakes runner-up Serving With Style.
