Minzaal - A fast horse, a fast start at stud
"He covered 161 mares, 40 of whom were black-type performers in their own racing careers"
Minzaal rates as one of the most exciting recruits to the stallion ranks in recent years, as a well bred son of commercial sensation Mehmas who showed top-class form at two, three and four, and he was duly supported with an outstanding book in his first season at Derrinstown Stud.
He covered 161 mares, 40 of whom were black-type performers in their own racing careers. They included Group winners Alanza, Distinctive, Maimara, Mango Diva, Nashmiah, Raymi Coya, Remember Alexander, Sparkling Beam, Strathnaver and Tajaanus.
Minzaal also received the dams of Group 1 winners Aristia and Marhaba Ya Sanafi, as well as of further Pattern scorers Asymmetric, Atomic Force, Believing, Create Belief, Djumama, Donnerschlag, Happy Romance, Home Of The Brave, One For Bobby, Pretty Baby, Santosha, Secret Weapon, Steel Bull, Viareggio and Youth Spirit.
Minzaal hails from the powerful Acclamation line, which is also responsible for leading sire Dark Angel, and he is a half-brother to two other winners. He hails from the prolific family of Group 1 performers Bankable, Dance To The Top and Polar Bear.
Minzaal won the Gimcrack Stakes by two lengths at two, finished a close third in the British Champions Sprint Stakes at three, and took the Hackwood Stakes and Haydock Sprint Cup at four.
His victory in the Sprint Cup, won in the past by successful sires Royal Applause, Invincible Spirit and Red Clubs, was achieved by an impressive three and three-quarters of a length from defending champion Emaraaty Ana. Other Group 1 winners Art Power, Khaadem and Naval Crown were among the also-rans that day.
Owen Burrows, trainer: "As a two-year-old, he’d do it every time if you asked him. There were a few bits of work that really got the heart pumping. He was a very athletic horse who moved well and covered the ground. Minzaal is easily the fastest I’ve trained. When he went up through the gears it was a sight to behold.”
